New contracts could save Louisville millions

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Two new contracts aim to help the city of Louisville save millions of dollars.

The new contracts involve Metro EMS and Metro Corrections employees.

On the heels of questions about overtime pay policies at the expense of taxpayers, both contracts include provisions so that sick time and vacation no longer count as time worked.

Kosair part of new group to end child abuse

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Kentucky ranks among the top states where children are dying from child abuse. The victims who make up that statistic are often taken to Kosair Children's Hospital.

Kosair is part of a new group aiming to eliminate that stat.

'Partnership to Eliminate Child Abuse' is just that - several partners including medical professionals, local and state leaders. They formed the new group to better communicate with the public.

"We can't often prevent congenital heart disease or cancer in children, but this is completely preventable," Dr. Wright said.

Kosair isn't in this alone. UofL Pediatrics - Forensic Medicine, Kentucky Children's Hospital, local and state leaders formed the new group to better communicate with you and be a resource.

Dr. Wright reached out to print and broadcast outlets in hopes of keeping the conversation going, after a tragic event.

Parent charged with assaulting school principal

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A Louisville man is facing charges after he was arrested for assaulting the principal of his child's elementary school Tuesday afternoon.

According to an arrest report, Lonnell Gathright was upset that his child was placed on a school bus at Hazelwood Elementary instead of being picked up by him.

The report states Gathright, 27, confronted the principal over the matter and was told not to enter the school building. Gathright pushed the principal aside and was attempting to make his way to the school office when he was confronted by a teacher and school security monitor. The arrest report says Gathright pushed the two aside in an attempt to confront a person in the school office.

Because of the incident, the school, located at 1325 Bluegrass Parkway, was placed on lockdown. The arrest slip states there were children in the school's hallway that were crying and panicking.
