LOUISVILLE, KY – The YMCA of Greater Louisville will hold its 7th annual Healthy Kids Day on Sunday, May 20, at a new venue this year. This years event will be held at Slugger Field.

Standoff ends in Shively, man dead

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A standoff lasting nearly 12 hours came to an end early Saturday morning in Shively.

The man police were after, Jerry Ross, is dead. Police have not determined how Ross died.

He was married to Gloria Ross, a homicide victim found shot to death Thursday night. Family members discovered her body in the backyard of her home on Fernheather Drive. She had been shot multiple times.

The standoff began around 4:30 Friday afternoon when police were called to a home in the 2900 block of Dixie Highway. It took police until almost 4 a.m. on Saturday to gain entry to the house.

Sgt. Josh Myers of the Shively Police Department said once officers were inside, they discovered Jerry Ross' body. Myers also said an investigation into the cause of Ross' death is underway.

Police used several methods throughout the night, including tear gas, to make contact with Ross.
