LOUISVILLE, KY – The University of Louisville Center for Women & Infants is on the forefront of helping Kentucky handle a growing problem – babies born with neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) as a result of being exposed to drugs in the womb.

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Community partners are collaborating to host a medication disposal drive-thru event on May 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at two different locations in Louisville.

Louisville Metro Police Department released a statement explaining that routine disposals of expired or unused medication helps to prevent unintentional or accidental poisoning to those in your home—particularly children, senior citizens and pets. Disposing of drugs in the proper way also helps to protect the environment.

Along with LMPD, contributing partners to this event are:

  • Building Resiliency in Campus and Community Coalition
  • PAL Coalition
  • Seven Counties Services
  • Kentucky Harvest

Affordable summer public transportation for youths

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – TARC Summer Youth Passes go on sale May 15.

These passes give anyone ages six to 17 unlimited travel on all TARC routes through August 31. The cost for a pass is $30.

J. Barry Barker, executive director of TARC, believes taking public transportation helps youths to become more self-reliant and confident—important skills for lifelong success.

"We encourage young people and employers to consider the Summer Youth Pass for job opportunities this summer," Barker  said. "The pass is a great tool for youth to access positive experiences all summer long throughout Greater Louisville."

Summer Youth Passes will be on sale online at ridetarc.org and at the following locations:
