LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Officials with the Metropolitan Sewer District said 95 million gallons on storm water and wastewater were released after a major failure at one of its plants.
The release happened around 8:30 a.m. Sunday at the Derek R. Guthrie Water Quality Treatment Center on the southwestern part of Jefferson County. According to the utility, the failure happened in the plant's mechanical screening system and allowed the storm water and wastewater to overflow into Pond Creek and Mill Creek.
MSD said one of the screens had been repaired by Sunday night which allowed part of the wastewater treatment plant to go back into service.
